PAST AWARDEES — COHORT ONE

Five partnerships, two years, and 4,329 small businesses served across New York City.

Eighteen neighborhoods across Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Citywide. One hundred percent of small business owners reporting increased confidence. And every partnership with plans to continue.

Since our founding in 2021, the purpose of the NY SBFC has been to assemble and activate funders to strengthen the business support ecosystem for presently and historically excluded entrepreneurs in NYC.

To date, we have:

  • Secured over $4.5 million in financial commitments for pooled grantmaking

  • Attracted 8 members, leading institutions from the financial, foundation, and corporate sectors

  • Delivered an entirely new grant-making experience in keeping with collaborative and trust-based philanthropy

  • Designed and launched two rounds of grant-making plus technical assistance across two grantee cohorts, with the next public RFP launching in late 2026

Our Purpose

While small business is a key driver of wealth and opportunity in America, its promise is not available to all.

TWO-YEAR IMPACTS

From community-led planning to implementation.

Over the course of two years, our first cohort moved from community-led planning projects aimed to help small businesses poised for growth to implementation of pilots, curricula, coaching, and more. These partnerships are demonstrating a positive impact on small business owners, their families, and local neighborhoods.

Access to capital

Numerous micro- and small businesses are in the process of securing capital, having been locked out or averse to the process in the past.

All five partnerships have plans to continue, with many expanding the scope of their original idea using new staff and funds leveraged from SBFC’s original support.
